The Brigham Young Cougars announced a two game football series with the Cincinnati Bearcats today The series will be played in consecutive years starting in 2015.

The first game is scheduled to be played October 24, 2012, in Provo, Utah. The Cougars will make a return visit to Cincinnati on November 12, 2016.

BYU and Cincinnati have never played in football.

BYU played Notre Dame, coached by Brian Kelly, 12 days ago. Before coaching Notre Dame, Kelly coached at Cincinnati. He led the Bearcats to two consecutive Big East Championships and two BCS bowl games in 2008-09. Cincinnati was 12-0 in the 2009 regular season.

Since Kelly left, Cincinnati has continued to win under head coach Butch Jones. The Bearcats slipped to 4-8 in 2010, but rebounded to 10-3 last year and tied for the Big East Championship. They are currently 5-2 in 2012. The 2010 season is the only time since 2006 that Cincinnati has won less than eight games.

“I like this series with Cincinnati. This will be the first time our football program has ever played in Ohio,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “It meets our objective of playing in different regions of the country and brings another quality football opponent to LaVell Edwards Stadium.”

Only one player, Conner Noe, on the current BYU roster calls Ohio home. Noe is a freshman defensive back from Mason, OH.
