BYU vs. Hawai'i: 5 Answers

Now that the BYU Cougars have come out victorious over the Hawai'i Warriors, it is time to answer the five pre-game questions.

1. Is the team still fully invested?

A resounding yes. It was very impressive the way BYU came out and dominated the line of scrimmage on the first drive of the game. The Cougar defense overwhelmed Hawai'i all night as well. Only a fluke turnover allowed Hawai'i to score in the first half.

2. Will Dylan Collie make BYU fans regret that he transferred?

The youngest of the Collie brothers had six receptions for 107 yards, and a punt return for eight yards. However, 37 of those yards came in the final four minutes when BYU was already up 30-13, and the outcome was decided.

It is hard to say he made Cougar fans regret that he transferred. He clearly didn't influence the outcome of the game, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to have had a sure handed, upperclassman receiver on the team this year.

3. Can BYU ruin Hawai'i's senior night?

Yes, BYU rained on the parade for the Warrior's seniors in their final game. It wasn't hard seeing that BYU was vastly superior, physically. The score could have been a lot worse.

The Cougar defense almost doubly ruined the night. Hawai'i running back Diocemy Saint Juste entered the game needing just 28 yards to set the school's single-season record for most rushing yards. He almost didn't break the record, but on his final carry of the game he got the requisite yards.

4. Can BYU top an equally bad opponent?

This game felt much more like the San Jose State game than the East Carolina and UMass games. Therefore, BYU broke even with a 2-2 record against opponents going through similarly rough seasons. BYU moved to 4-9 and Hawai'i dropped to 3-9.

5. Can BYU avoid more historic landmarks?

Yes, the Cougars did not add to the infamy of this season by finishing the season with a 3-10 record. The game and final 4-9 record by no means erased what was already done, but it did give the seniors a nice send of and gave the returning players something positive to build on during the offseason.
