BYU in NFL, Week 10: Packers turn to Jamaal Williams to grind out win

Former BYU RB Jamaal Williams (USA TODAY Sports)

Bye weeks limited the number of former BYU Cougars in action again this weekend. Kyle Van Noy continued to be a team leader, but Jamaal Williams was the big story of this week. Injuries moved him into the feature running back role, and he helped carry the Packers to victory.

Here is a complete rundown of former Cougars in the NFL for week ten.

Ezekiel Ansah, Detroit Lions (5-4, W 38-24 Cleveland Browns)
Ansah did not play this week against the Browns. He has been playing through injuries all season, and it looks like the Lions decided they could do without Ansah against the winless Browns. The injury report said it was his back.

Jamaal Williams, Green Bay Packers (5-4, W 23-16 Chicago Bears)
What goes around comes around. After losing an opportunity to be the Packers' feature back earlier this season because of a knee injury, Williams saw his most extensive action of the year as Aaron Jones left the game with a knee injury of his own. All of Williams' offensive work came in the second half.

He didn't have impressive numbers, but he did have several first down runs of four yards to set up a favorable situation on second down. Green Bay coaches even trusted him to get the first down on 4th and 1 near midfield, which Williams did convert. He caught the only pass thrown his direction. This Scout.com article is very positive about Williams' play on Sunday.

He was in for a total of 35 offensive plays (53%) and seven special teams plays (24%).

Williams also made a tackle on a first half kickoff.
