After losing one 2018 Texas QB, BYU picks up another one

Stacy Conner on his recent official visit to BYU.

Word got out last week that 2018 quarterback recruit Zadock Dinklemann from Texas was decommiting from the BYU Cougars. That didn't come as a big surprise, since his only connection to the program was uncle Ty Detmer. It took just a couple of days for BYU to find another quarterback from the Lone Star state to replace Dinklemann in the 2018 class.

Stacy Conner from Wylie, Texas is now listed as a BYU commit by all the major recruiting websites. Conner is listed at 6-foot-5 and 185 pounds by Rivals. Although his highlights do include some plays as a wide receiver, he is listed as a pro-style quarterback.

Kacey Robbins from Scout.com is reporting that Conner will take advantage of the early enrollment period. BYU should have a signed letter of intent in the next few days, and Conner will start classes next month.

This season was Conners' first at Wylie High School. In 2016, he prepped at Bishop Dunne High School in Dallas, Texas. That is the same high school that current Cougar Micah Simon attended. Simon is a wide receiver now, but he, too, played quarterback in high school. BYU coaches may have similar plans for Conner.

The stats for Conner differ on the various recruiting websites. It appears that he passed for about 1,000 yards and completed around 50 percent of his passes as a senior. In 2016, he had roughly 1,700 yards passing, with a similar completion percentage near 50 percent. One area he improved on as a senior was avoiding interceptions. His TD:Int ratio was much better in 2017 than 2016.

From the highlight videos, Conner displays nice touch on his passes. His footwork greatly resembles Robbie Bosco. He usually keeps his shoulders parallel to the line of scrimmage and backpedals.

Conner was verbally committed to UNLV before BYU offered.
