Austin Collie, Indianapolis Colts, is clearly the most followed former Brigham Young Cougars player in the NFL. Collie received 53% of all votes cast. Dennis Pitta, Baltimore Ravens, and John Beck, Washington Redskins, tied for second with 19% each. Max Hall, Arizona Cardinals, was a very distant fourth with 4%. Brett Keisel, Pittsburgh Steelers, had 2% of the votes. Bryan Kehl and Brady Poppinga, both with the St. Louis Rams, and Chris Hoke, Pittsburgh Steelers, were the only other former Cougars to receive votes with 1% each.
Collie gets more of my attention than any other former Cougar, as well.
The former Cougar wide out plays more than anyone else. Until this year, he played for a Super Bowl contender. Perhaps most important, Collie plays a position where he accumulates stats, so it is easier to track what he does. Although it has been a down year without Peyton Manning, Collie has logged 42 receptions for 369 yards in 2011.
Congratulations to Collie and the Colts for picking up their first win of the season yesterday, 27-13, over the Tennessee Titans.
No offense to guys like Ray Feinga, John Denney, and Manase Tonga--who received no votes--but unless you are a family member or a lifelong fan of the team they play for there is little reason to follow them closer than knowing they are in the NFL and what team they play for. These guys don't play much, plus they don't play a glamour position.
David Nixon and Vic So'oto are the other former Cougars in the NFL who also failed to receive voted. For a complete list of former BYU football players in the NFL, click here.
Thank you to everyone who voted. Don't forget to vote in this week's poll: "Should BYU have started bowl practices before December 19?"
