BYU Football: Did you know? (Bowl Appearances)

For the 30th time in the last 37 seasons, the Brigham Young Cougars are preparing for a bowl game.

Did you know that over the last 37 seasons BYU has played in more bowl games than Notre Dame and every school from the Big East and Pac-12?
Notre Dame will play in just its 26th bowl game over the last 37 seasons tonight in the Champ Sports Bowl against Florida State.

USC is the closest school in the Pac-12 to matching BYU’s remarkable bowl run. Two years ago, BYU and USC were tied with 28 bowl appearances since 1974. However, NCAA sanctions have kept USC out of a bowl for the last two seasons, which has allowed BYU to move ahead of the Trojans.

As for the Big East, West Virginia has been the most consistent school over the last 37 seasons. The Mountaineers will play in their 24th bowl game January 4, 2012, in the Orange Bowl against Clemson.

  1. Part of this says that BYU has dominated their conference, while PAC 10 and others have better parity (or worse consistency). Not necessarily a good or bad thing. Bowls will be harder to come by as BYU starts scheduling better schools, however. Go Cougs!
