This is the seventh season since the BYU Cougars left the Mountain West Conference (MWC) to be a college football independent. With independence a lot of emphasis is put on how well BYU plays early in the season.

Did you know that BYU's win-loss record pre-October as an independent is almost identical to its win-loss record during the last seven seasons in the MWC?

Total: 17-14 (54.83%)

* BYU has one more game scheduled for September 29, 2017 at Utah State.
