BYU Football: Did you know? (BYU and Pac-12 Coaches)

By now, you have probably heard 100 times that the Brigham Young Cougars will play against a Pac-12 team coached by BYU alum Mike Leach in the season opener. As interesting as that sounded the first 10 times you heard it, a BYU alum coaching in the Pac-12 is hardly an anomaly.

Did you know that three Pac-12 head coaches and five Pac-12 assistant coaches are BYU alumni?
The head coaches are:

Mike Leach, Washington State
Steve Sarkisian, Washington
Kyle Whittingham, Utah

The assistant coaches are:

Dennis Simmons, Washington State (Outside Receivers)
John Neal, Oregon (Secondary)
Robert Anae, Arizona (Offensive Line)
Kalani Fifita-Sitake, Utah (Defensive Coordinator, Linebackers)
Aaron Roderick, Utah (Wide Receivers)

Five of the conference's 12 schools are represented on this list.

Of these eight individuals, Leach is the only one not to play football at BYU.

Interestingly, BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall graduated from Pac-12 school Oregon State.
