Fans were given the opportunity to submit questions to current players. While I always love to hear what current players have to say, they dodged a lot of questions and gave vague answers. There were still some good tidbits from each player. Personally, I liked Justin Sorenson's the best.
Corby Eason
Meeting with Bronco was one of the biggest reasons Eason came to BYU. He saw Bronco could help him have new values in life and become a better person.
Being baptized last November (2010) was the best decision of his life.
BYU has playmakers in the secondary. Having to prove themselves is motivation.
He thinks it is wonderful to run the corner blitz and get some sacks. Bronco put that play in when he took over as defensive coordinator. It is hard for him to hide his excitement when he was coming on a blitz.
He knows every position in the secondary. He is comfortable with his abilities, and will not worry about others taking his starting spot.
This is the best front 7 he has seen since he got here.
Mike Hague is adjusting well to his new position. He can help out a lot.
Being small helped him develop his strong work ethic. He had to work extra hard to prove himself day in and day out.
He wants to see BYU play Georgia. BYU could get some recruits from there if BYU wins.
McKay Jacobson
Q. What was it like to play with Chase Daniel (Missouri) and Greg McElroy (Alabama) in High School?
A. We were 63-1 in high school. He acknowledged he had great quarterbacks. He does stay in touch with them.
Jacobson claims he runs a 4.4 40.
His dad gave out close to 100 tickets for the Oklahoma game at Cowboy Stadium in 2009.
Q. What opponent do you want BYU to play?
A. USC, Big XII schools, Notre Dame
Bryan Kariya
Q. How does new offensive scheme help his game?
A. He doesn’t see a ton of changes. There are some new formations. The shot gun will still be used a lot. He doesn’t see that it will change my game.
Q. How fun was the 2009 Oklahoma game, since Harvey Unga did not play?
A. Realized I could only play my best. Got a lot of touches. It was awesome.
He plans to go to dental school.
Q. What do you do between spring and fall, and how much contact do you have with coaches?
A. The first 9 weeks of summer players can have closer contact with the coaches. They can be out there with them, but cannot touch a ball. After 9 weeks coaches have to take a step back. Players are on their own. Coaches can be in the weight room to make sure the players are doing things safely.
Q. Will Drew Phillips make it into the rotation?
A. He is deceptively fast. Don’t know what his situation is. Hope he can be a part of what we do.
Justin Sorenson
He has 14 unicycles.
Riding a unicycle helps your legs better because legs are your breaks. He gets a better workout (muscles are more tired) riding a unicycle than doing the coaches’ workouts.
He would love to run some trick plays on the kicks. The kicker does the exact same thing every time, so any change is the highlight of the day.
Q. How are your post-mission legs?
A. He had surgery on his ankle. He was surprised how fast his legs came back. He attributes that to riding the unicycle during his mission.
Q. How many field goals does he kick per day?
A. Normally 20-30. He kicked 45 today. When practicing, it is best to have the holder and snapper there. They tries to simulate game situations (make up a score—down 2—and time left in the game/half), then they run from the sidelines and set up to kick.
Q. Does the unicycle develop muscles that other kickers don’t have?
A. Yes. He rides the unicycles to get strength in abnormal ways.
His longest field goal ever kicked was a 76-yarder once in practice.
Q. How satisfied were you with your freshman season?
A. I could have done better. I had some small injuries and tried very hard to get back quickly. That caused my leg to get too tired. Legs are fresh now.
