It is just a vocal minority that opposes former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy saying "Brigham" in his TV player introduction

Are BYU fans really put off by the way Kyle Van Noy "reps the Y" with his NFL player introduction on TV? (Spenser Heaps)

As a BYU Cougars football fan, there are a lot of sensitive subjects. For example, BYU not being welcomed into a Power 5 conference. Another one is the Honor Code. Lately, some fans have responded sensitively to Kyle Van Noy's NFL player introduction on television.

Most NFL players keep their introduction simple, and follow the status quo. "Cameron Fleming, Stanford." Van Noy is not one of those players. He decided to say "Brigham" instead of "BYU."

On episode 38 of The Jimmy Rex Show, Van Noy explains for he does not do this as a slight to BYU, but if you search Twitter, it is hard to tell whether the overall response to Van Noy's "Brigham" was positive or negative. Therefore, this was the question asked in the Blue Cougar Football weekly opinion poll: How do you feel about Kyle Van Noy saying "Brigham" in his NFL player introduction on TV? The official results are below.
Official Results
44% Love it
33% Let him do his thing
19% Wish he said BYU
4% Hate it
It turns out, any weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth over the introduction is that of a vocal minority. Over three quarters of respondents gave what I would consider a favorable answer (Love it or Let him do his thing). Only four percent chose the "Hate it" option.

Apparently, most fans are able to remember Van Noy's upbeat and fun loving attitude when he was at BYU. His interviews with Greg Wrubell were always entertaining. That is his personality. There is no reason to think it would have changed in the last five years. He may be more tight lipped and hold back his joviality in interviews now in order to comply with the "Patriot Way," but Bill Belichick doesn't meddle with the school name a player uses in his TV introduction.

Could Van Noy change it to BYU? That isn't entirely up to him. As Blue Couar Football learned when interviewing Brett Keisel, these player introductions aren't recorded on a regular basis. When asked about his use of Greybull High School in his introduction, Keisel pointed out, "That intro was filmed five years ago."

While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I, for one, am grateful that this debate is even possible. The fact that BYU has an alumnus starting for an NFL team is great. That is the only reason Van Noy is giving an introduction for TV. Having him as a starter gives me more to be excited about during the football season.
