Kyle Van Noy breaking up a 2-point conversion. |
Kyle Van Noy was much more involved in Super Bowl LII and he was in last year's Super Bowl, but the Patriot's defense had a very hard time stopping the Philadelphia Eagles offense. His big numbers weren't enough to get another Super Bowl title.
Kyle Van Noy, New England Patriots (13-3)
Wild Card: BYE
Divisional: W 35-14 Tennessee Titans
AFC Championship: W 24-20 Jacksonville Jaguars
Super Bowl: L 41-33 Philadelphia Eagles
Van Noy got off to a fast start with three tackles on the game's opening drive, including the first play of the game and an impressive one armed tackle for loss.
— Culler Sports (@CullerSports) February 5, 2018
He finished the first half with four tackles, but the Patriots were trailing 22-12. The Eagles stayed away from Van Noy more in the second half. He did manage one more tackle, which brought up a 3rd and 1 with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter while the Patriots were trying to defend a 33-32 lead. Van Noy got pressure on the Eagles' quarterback on the next play, which resulted in a pass for no gain to set up a 4th and 1. Unfortunately the Eagles converted the first down on the next play.
After the Eagles took a 38-33 lead with 2:21 to play, Van Noy broke up the pass on the two-point conversion (see photo above), which meant New England could win with a touchdown.
Tom Brady fumbled two plays later, and Philadelphia was already in field goal range.
Van Noy finished the game with five tackles and one tackle for loss. His five tackles ties Brett Keisel (Super Bowl XLIII) for most by a BYU player in the Super Bowl.
Playoff Stats: 16 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, 1 pass break up, 1 forced fumble
