The 2012 BYU Recruiting Class

The Brigham Young Cougars unveiled its 17 member recruiting class for 2012. This class consists of 14 high school seniors, one junior college transfer, and two transfers from four-year schools. BYU will also have the services of 12 returned missionaries for the 2012 season.

One player who was expected to sign, but didn’t, was Sawyer Powell from Richland High School in Richland, Washington.

Six players are expected to serve two-year missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling at BYU. They are: Phillip Amone, Micah Hannemann, Troy Hinds, Tanner Mangum, Steven Richards, and Josh Weeks.

Taysom Hill, Marques Johnson, and Ammon Olsen are the three transfers. They are already enrolled at BYU and participating in off season workouts.

A complete list of the recruiting class and the returning missionaries is listed below, as well as the position they are expected to play, their height and weight, where they are from, and their most recent school. For complete biographies and highlights of each player, click here.

  1. I noticed Sawyer Powell isn't included in your list of signees. Technically, he's not a signee because he's already enrolled. Anyway, I heard that he was recruited for his pure athleticism and has no football experience. What do you think we can expect from him? Also, what do you think of Bronco's strategy of recruiting athletic people in hopes of coaching them up to be competitive in football? He's done experiments like this before. Ezekiel Ansah is the only one who comes to mind. That was a little long winded, but maybe something you could discuss in a future mailbag post.
