NFL Combine Results for Hebron Fangupo and Matt Reynolds

Former Brigham Young Cougars Hebron Fangupo and Matt Reynolds were in Indianapolis, Indiana as the NFL held its annual scouting combine from February 22-28. The combine is a great opportunity for pro prospects to be evaluated by the decision makers for all 32 teams. So, how did they do?

Hebron Fangupo, DT, 6’1”, 323 lbs.

40-yard dash: 5.18 seconds
20-yard shuttle: 4.62 seconds
3 cone drill: 7.94 seconds
Bench Press (225 lbs.): 36 reps
Broad Jump: 99 inches (8 ft. 3 in.)
Vertical Jump: 31.5 inches (2 ft. 7.5 in.)

The bench press was Fangupo’s best test. The 36 reps tied for second among all defensive linemen.

The scouting report on Fangupo is that he has incredible strength, which allows him to take on double teams effectively. However, strength is all Fangupo has going for him. His footwork is non-existant, and he comes off the ball way too slow. Past injuries will also hurt Fangupo’s draft stock. Fangupo has been given a 54.0 grade, which translates into a draftable player in rounds 4-7.

NFLdraftscout.com lists Fangupo as the 14th best defensive tackle and 137th best player in the draft. He is projected as a fourth round pick.

Matt Reynolds, OL, 6’5”, 302 lbs.

40-yard dash: 5.37 seconds
Bench Press (225 lbs.): 25 reps

The scouting report on Reynolds is that he is undersized for tackle in the NFL. He is a good run blocker, quick off the line of scrimmage, and has adequate athletic ability. Reynolds needs to work on sustaining his blocks and his quickness while working up field. Age, due to missionary service, is also a concern. Reynolds has been given a 64.0 grade, which places him in the same category as Fangupo—a draftable player in rounds 4-7.

NFLdraftscout.com lists Reynolds as the 13th best offensive tackle and 145th best player available in the draft. He is projected as a late fourth round or early fifth round pick.

With a good pro day, both players should be drafted in the NFL Draft in late April and be given opportunities to continue their playing careers.
