The votes are in, and 45% voted "No." The next highest vote getter was "50/50 Chance" with 39%. The "Yes" voters comprised only 16%.
I struggled to answer this question.
Of course, the genesis of this question was the fact that, first, BYU played a competitive game with TCU. If not for some bizzare special teams plays, BYU had a great chance to win. Two weeks after that, TCU went on the road and beat Boise State.
BYU has a history of playing well in big games, even when "overmatched." Just look at 2004, when what ended up being a 5-6 BYU team was a missed field goal in the final minute away from beating a Boise State team that would finish the regular season undefeated.
At 8-3, this BYU team is better than the 2004 team. However, this 2011 BYU team has also had two colossal melt downs. I think BYU would put up a good fight, but I can't confidently say BYU would have even a 50/50 chance to win because of the multiple meltdowns.
As hard as it is to say, I think the 2011 BYU team would lose to Boise State.
Thank you to everyone who voted. Don't forget to vote in this week's poll: "Should Kyle Van Noy wear the number 1 for the rest of the year?"
