BYU Football: Did you know? (Multiple Opponents From The Same State)

The Brigham Young Cougars will play the Idaho Vandals on Saturday. This marks the second game this season that BYU plays against a team from Idaho.

Did you know that, since 1978, during a single season BYU has played multiple opponents from the same state 34 times (excluding Utah, and excluding occurrences when the all opponents from a state were conference members)?

Eight times, two of the opponents have been non-conference opponents.

2011-Idaho (Idaho, Idaho State)
2011-Texas (Texas, TCU)
2004, 2003-California (USC, Stanford, San Diego State—conference opponent)
1988, 1987-Texas (Texas, TCU, UTEP—conference opponent)
1980-Texas (SMU, North Texas State, UTEP—conference opponent)
1978-Oregon (Oregon State, Oregon)

Twenty-six times, one of the opponents has been a non-conference opponent, and at least one was a conference opponent (non-conference opponents are underlined).

2010-Texas (TCU, UTEP)
2010-Nevada (Nevada, UNLV)
2008, 2007, 1991, 1986, 1985, 1983-California (UCLA, San Diego State)
2005, 2001, 1999-California (Cal, San Diego State)
