BYU Football: Did you know? (Tackles For Loss)

In 2000, Isaac Kelley was part of a unique group of BYU defenders with his 14 TFL.

There are certain plays that are always exciting to see a defense create. For example, turnovers and sacks. Tackles for loss (TFL) are also exciting results for the defense. They can be just as impactful as a sack, and give a team momentum. Usually, a defense has at least one player with double-digit TFL in a season. Two players with double digits isn't that surprising. If there are three, then that defense has had a really good year. That makes what the BYU Cougars defense did in 2000 very impressive.
Did you know that seven BYU defenders had 10 or more TFL in 2000?
Setema Gali led the team with 18 TFL. Chris Hoke was second with 15 TFL.

Three players had 14 TFL:
  • Isaac Kelley,
  • Ryan Denney, and
  • Hans Olsen.
Justin Ena led the team in total tackles with 107. Eleven of those were TFL.

Brett Keisel was the final player with double-digit TFL. He had an even 10.

According to Blue Cougar Football's research, there has not been another season where BYU has had as many players with 10 or more TFL.
