BYU Football: Did you know? (Linebackers Drafted into the NFL)

The Brigham Young Cougars have a long history of sending players to play in the NFL. However, it would be nice to see a higher quantity of BYU linebackers drafted by NFL teams.
Did you know that Colby Bockwoldt was the first outside linebacker from BYU drafted into the NFL for 18 years?
Bockwoldt was drafted in the seventh round by the New Orleans Saints in the 2004 NFL Draft. Not since Leon White and Kurt Gouveia were drafted in the 1986 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals (fifth round) and Washington Redskins (eighth round), respectively, had a BYU outside linebacker been drafted.

Middle linebacker Rob Morris was the only other BYU linebacker to be drafted during that span. He was drafted in the first round by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Since 2004, BYU has had two linebackers drafted. Middle linebacker Brady Poppinga was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round in 2005. Outside linebacker Bryan Kehl was drafted by the New York Giants in the fourth round in 2008. Both Poppinga and Kehl currently play for the St. Louis Rams.
