Thursday Trivia: 1986-88 All-Americans

The correct answer to the last trivia question "How many times has BYU played a former conference member in a bowl game?" is 3—Colorado, Arizona, and UTEP.

  • BYU and Colorado were both members of the Rocky Mountain conference from 1922-37, and the Mountain States Conference from 1938-47. In 1988, BYU squared off against Colorado in the Freedom Bowl.
  • BYU and Arizona both played in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) from 1962 to 1977. In 2008, the Cougars and the Wildcats played each other in the 2008 Las Vegas Bowl.
  • BYU and UTEP were both members of the WAC from 1968 to 1998. In 2010, BYU and UTEP played in the New Mexico Bowl.
On a side note, BYU played SMU in the 1980 Holiday Bowl. From 1996 to 1998, they were both members of the WAC.
