Sorensen helps knock off the Patriots, Williams makes a nice, modest debut

The BYU Cougars were well represented in the NFL's first game of the season. The 2017 kickoff game last Thursday had the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs face off. That game saw two former Cougars suit up for New England and two participate for Kansas City--one player, one coach.

Here is the run down for all former BYU players in the NFL for week one.

Ezekiel Ansah, Detroit Lions (1-0, W Arizona Cardinals 35-23)
Ansah made one tackle

John Denney, Miami Dolphins (0-0)
The Dolphins game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was postponed due to Hurricane Irma.

Daniel Sorensen, Kansas City Chiefs (1-0, W New England Patriots 42-27)
Sorensen made two tackles. He may see his playing time increase with the season ending injury to safety Eric Berry

Kyle Van Noy, New England Patriots (0-1, L Kansas City Chiefs 42-27)
Van Noy was second on the team in tackles with five, but reports were he didn't play very well. Which made the timing a little off for the Patriots to announce the next day that they had signed Van Noy to a two-year extension.

Harvey Langi, New England Patriots (0-1, L Kansas City Chiefs 42-27)
Langi did not play.

Bronson Kaufusi, Baltimore Ravens (1-0, W Cincinnati Bengals 20-0)
Kaufusi did not play.

Jamaal Williams, Green Bay Packers (1-0, W Seattle Seahawks 17-9)
Williams had a nice NFL debut with 2 carries for 9 yards. He had a first quarter carry for a first down, and one in the fourth quarter on a Green Bay scoring drive that helped put the game away.

Alani Fua, Arizona Cardinals (0-1, L Detroit Lions 35-23)
Fua did not play and will not play until he is off of injured reserve for an injury he suffered three games into last season.

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints (0-0, Vs. Minnesota Vikings Monday Night)
Typically, Blue Cougar Football waits until all games with former BYU players are played before publishing the weekly report. However, given the nature of quarterback play in the NFL, it is virtually impossible that Hill will play in this Monday Night Football affair.

Kai Nacua, Cleveland Browns (0-1, L Pittsburgh Steelers 21-18)
Nacua played for Cleveland, but did not record any stats.
